“There is a fierce battle going on for PRESENCE in the world today: the true Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and our presence to one another.”

Early in the morning on this date in 1905, in the small village of Głogowiec, located right smack-dab in the center of Poland, Maria Faustina Kowalska was born. As we know, she would live a humble life, quietly enter a convent, and eventually become one of the most well-known Catholic mystics of all time. In one of her many conversations with Jesus, Our Lord asked her to paint a picture of what she saw; a beautiful vision of Jesus standing before her with rays of mercy emanating from his breast. Faustina’s vision has since been rendered by countless artists and has become one of the most ubiquitous images of Jesus in the world.

Normally, the life of a saint is celebrated on their feast day, and St Faustina’s feast day is October 5. But August 25 usually flies by without much fanfare. There are rarely any special observances or Masses to attend. Most of us are reminded about Faustina’s birthday from a post on social media or from an email solicitation. But this year, something very beautiful is happening on Faustina’s birthday. Today, a Mercy Movement has been launched into the world! A movement of radical Trust in Jesus and devotion to His Unfathomable Mercy. A movement that promotes mercy as the appropriate response to offenses. A movement that intentionally consecrates our families, our cities, and our countries to Divine Mercy. The Divine Mercy Summit, this Mercy Movement, is our birthday present to Saint Faustina!

A Mercy Movement

Yes, there is the global pandemic, and cities are on lockdown, and masks are covering every face - the very icon of God in the world. Thousands of people have been unable to visit each other, attend Mass or prayer meetings or cenacles. In some cases, we have been heaving from people who have been unable to be present at the bedside of their dying loved ones. – a moment particularly emphasized for us in the beautiful devotion to Divine Mercy.

Dare I say there is a fierce battle going on for PRESENCE in the world today: the true Presence of Christ in the Eucharist and our presence to one another.

With the restrictions on Mass attendance, many Catholics are getting quite comfortable with the idea of not going to Church on Sunday. Sure, going to some places where there are large groups has not yet been deemed safe for some more at-risk people, but we must all be burning inside to receive Jesus and to be with Him – in His “Vera Presenza” - in the Holy Eucharist. If we are not yearning to be with Him more than anything or anyone else on earth, then we are falling for the trick being played on the world by you-know-who!

Do not let your love for Jesus grow cold! Divine Mercy is where revival starts.

The Divine Mercy Summit has officially been announced today as a birthday present for Saint Faustina. The entire event has been submitted to her intercession under the rays of the Unfathomable Mercy of Jesus.
